Forensic acquisition of LG webOS Smart Televisions

About 1 year ago, ZENA forensics posted an analysis of an LG television. What crime can you solve with a LG TV? Many, mostly viewing of pirated content with the web browser. You can also traffick drugs with the web browser. Excluding the browser, you might find Google credentials in the YouTube app. The web browser (again) can be used to log in. But how do you acquire the image to begin with? 


1. Software exploit method.


Use the RootMyTV exploit to exploit the tv. First navigate to http://www.rootmy.tv/ on the web browser or just rootmy.tv on the browsing app. Then run the exploit by

*dragging the slider

*pressing 5

*hittin’ the link


If the TV turns off turn it back on again.

After that. You are jailbroken and can use ssh to use SCP to dump the filesystem.



2. Hardware method 

Open the tv up then find the emmc chip then dump the chip.


3. Support method 


Contact LG support to help you obtain the data.this has the least success rate.
